NIGERIAN PREMIER LEAGUE WEEK 6 ROUND-UP

On a match day that produced 22 goals, and two away draws, it was a case of two teams with the sobriquet of Elephants that set the pace at the top of the Glo Premier League.

Giwa FC also known as the Elephant of Jos and their Enyimba counterparts, nicknamed the Peoples Elephant, are tied on 11 points in first and second positions respectively.

Enyimba 3-2 Sharks
Enyimba raced into a two-goal lead inside 23 minutes through Chinonso Okonkwo and Mfon Udoh. Jackson Daniel pulled one back for Sharks just before the hour mark but last season's top scorer, Udoh, restored the Peoples Elephant's two-goal lead to take his goals count to four. Daniel scored a late consolation for Sharks as Enyimba claimed their third win of the season.

Bayelsa Utd 0-0 Gabros FC
Gabros FC moved into third position after a 0-0 draw against Bayelsa United at the Oghara Township Stadium. Both teams just could not produce the firepower in the final third of their first-ever top flight clash.

Lobi Stars 1-1 Giwa FC
The Elephant of Jos gave their hosts, Lobi Stars, quite a scary time at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi and deservedly took the lead five minutes before the break through Ibrahim Shuaibu. Lobi had to work themselves to the fullest before they could break a resilient Giwa FC in the 74th minute through Nanen Imenger's goal. Lobi Stars are still without a win and sit in 17th place with five points - all taken from five draws.

Akwa Utd 2-0 Dolphins
A goal in each half condemned former champions, Dolphins, to a 2-0 loss in the hands of Akwa United. Ini Akpan scored from the spot in the 34th minute and Aniekpeno Udoh added gloss to the score to make it two-nil with two minutes left. Dolphins are now second from bottom while Akwa United climb to 13th position.

Rangers 3-0 El-Kanemi Warriors
The Flying Antelopes pounced on El-Kanemi like bees would do on honey from the word go. Marshall Onoriode Odah scored inside the first five minutes and should have got a hat-trick before the break. In the second half, Chisom Egbuchulam and Ousmane Pape Sane scored a goal each to make the score 3-0 and give Rangers faithful something to cheer after a poor start to the campaign.

Sunshine Stars 3-2 Wikki Tourists
It was end-to-end stuff in Akure as both teams conjured up a five-goal thriller. Wikki stunned their hosts with a 37th minute goal through Mubarak Umar but Sunshine Stars fought back just before the break through Paul Onobi's free kick goal. Nafiu Bala restored Wikki's lead in the 58th minute before Tamen Medrano bundled the ball across the line in a scramble to make the score 2-2. Sunshine then broke the hearts of the travelling contingent at the death when Adebayo Adigun popped up to score the winner.

Abia Warriors 1-0 Shooting Stars
Chisom Chikatara's first half goal was enough to give Abia Warriors the three points against Shooting Stars. It was the second win on the bounce for the Umuahia-based club as they moved into sixth place on the table while Shooting Stars drop to the bottom-three.

Kwara Utd 1-0 Nasarawa Utd
Kwara United returned to winning ways after two straight losses to Heartland and Shooting Stars. But the win did not come easy as they had to protect a first half goal from Segun Alebiosu for 55 minutes. Kwara United are now in 10th place while Nasarawa are two places below them.

Kano Pillars 2-1 FC Taraba
Glo Premier League champions, Kano Pillars escaped a scare from FC Taraba and ensured their home invincibility of 12 years in the top flight continues. Azeez Shobowale opened score for Pillars in the 27th minute but Mohammed Usman levelled the game seven minutes later from the spot for FC Taraba. Ubong Moses Ekpai struck the winner on 51 minutes for Pillars, who are now in eighth place while Taraba drop out of the top 10.

Warri Wolves 2-0 Heartland
In a rescheduled match played this morning at the Warri Townshop Stdium, Ichull Lordon and Gbolahan Salami were on target as the Wolves of Warri grabbed their second win of the season.
