OSHOALA SCORES ON HER DEBUT
Reigning African Women Footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala was on target yesterday in her first game for her new club, Liverpool FC.
Goals from Natasha Dowie (2), Satara Murray and Oshoala ensured a winning start in the Reds’ first official pre-season friendly of the 2015 campaign.
Following a bright opening from Matt Beard’s side, England international Dowie opened the scoring after two minutes firing home from a corner after the Aston Villa defence failed to clear the initial set piece.
The reigning Women’s Super League champions then double their lead ten minutes later as Oshoala scored for the home side excellently finished off a good team move.
The visitors from the Midlands halved the deficit moments after the re-start as Natasha Baptiste finished neatly passed Danielle Gibbons following a defensive mistake from the home side.
However, the Reds soon opened up another two goal lead just after the hour mark as a clinical finish from Dowie gave the visitors goalkeeper no chance as the Reds number nine made it 3-1.
The final goal of the game came from American central defender Murray as the twenty one year old marked her debut scored an emphatic header from a Fara Williams corner to wrap up a comfortable victory for Beard’s side.
